Star Wars: The Old Republic, Endgame Review

We brought you a review of SWTOR a few months ago, but we had yet to really experience much of the end game content. Well, now we’re making up for that. Our newest writer, Evan Reedy, has his review on the end game content of SWTOR. Be sure to let us know how you feel about the SWTOR endgame in the comments, and give Evan a warm welcome!

After having played through Star Wars the Old Republic (SWTOR) from Apprentice to Darth, I’ve encountered many different mechanics within the game that I love, hate and am intrigued by. While leveling you get to experience the quests, the skills, the flashpoints and the story of each individual class molded by wonderful voice acting. However that’s only part of the game.

Thoughts on SWTOR from an MMO vet and a noob.

–By Brendan & John

When Bioware announced it was making Star Wars: The Old Republic, it promised to change the way we played MMOs by giving a fully voice acted story arch for every quest, as well as numerous other tweaks to the MMO formula that would be modified to act more like a Bioware RPG. Did they deliver on the promise? John and Brendan take a look.

First, an overview of the game.

SWTOR is an MMO. There’s no way around it. It might have new ideas and do things differently, but at the end of the day it’s an MMO. But don’t take that as a bad thing; the game offers so many choices to players, it’s a refreshing change of pace when it comes to MMOs.

Magicka

Magicka is a great game, developed by Paradox games. The game is a Diablo-esque Action RPG, set in a Nose Mythology-themed world where you play as a wizard, trying to stop an evil… [Read more...]

To play or not to play: An MMOs hater’s SWTOR dilemma

–By Brendan

I don’t like MMOs. I liked Guild Wars, and Guild wars 2 looks promising, but compared to games like Everquest and World of Warcraft, it’s a very different type of game.

I tried to play WoW, made it to level 40 or 50 on a Bloodelf whatchamacallit, then called it quits.

I gave Final fantasy XI a shot, but the grind was too much, and I hadn’t really found a good group to play with, so once again I called it a day.

do, however, like Bioware RPGs — Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect series especially (the Dragonage series was kinda ‘meh’ for me). With those two truths nagging at my mind, I find myself torn: is SWOTOR the first MMO for me, or just another grinding mill of boredom? [Read more...]
